New EU regulations

Do you still use traditional fluorescent lighting tubes and halogen bulbs in your company? Check if you would be able to get them without any problems - the European Union is aware of the advantages of LED technology and is taking further steps to implement it on an ever-increasing scale.

Both the SLR (Single Lighting Regulation), effective from September 1, 2021, and the updated RoHS (ang. Reduction of Hazardous Substances) directive result in the withdrawal of several conventional light sources from production. Namely, non-integrated CFL lamps, T5/T8 lamps and halogen lamps.

Why? The changes result directly from the Paris Agreement signed at the UN conference in 2015, which obliges the EU to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and, ultimately, to achieve climate neutrality. Replacing conventional light sources with LED technology is one of the ways to achieve this goal.

Conventional light sources not only consume large amounts of electricity, but also have a negative impact on the environment. Their production includes usage of harmful substances, e.g. mercury, which creates problems with their storage after use. The RoHS Directive restricts the use of these substances in the electronics and electrotechnical industries in the European Union. The SLR, in turn, forbids to launch products that do not meet the requirements of energy efficiency. Both documents are aimed on usage of the most climate-neutral lighting solutions and the natural environment protection.

Directives EU

The time of traditional fluorescent lamps in Europe is coming to an end. What to replace them with?

Do EU regulations mean that the above products will not be found at all? No, the restrictions only apply to launching new products. The produced ones will still be available on the market for some time, but the demand for them will grow and the supply will decrease, which at some point will cause a sharp increase in prices.

The gradual phasing out of conventional light sources from stores is a good opportunity ligh modernization. Products restricted by EU regulations can be replaced with LED technology. High-quality LED lighting from LEDOLUX POLAND offers many benefits:
